High Ethical Standards

High Ethical Standards

Ethics Matter. Particularly, voters should expect transparency and ethical behavior from their elected officials.  Salim is committed to both. The current MERCER ISLAND ethics code was tested recently when a member of the Planning Commission took consulting fees from a large developer of an Island project, and it came up short as legally enforceable. Our Ethics Code needs to be strengthened, especially it needs to be clarified. Accusations of unethical behavior by anyone serving in an official capacity are unnecessary distractions from the important business of the City. Salim supports the necessary revisions to finally put a transparent and enforceable Ethics Code in place.
